Twingo is go, go, go. Renault’s cute, all-new electric city car is all set to arrive.

We hope to have a new Twingo on display in our showroom in Long Road, Lowestoft, in August. Matt Huke-Jenner, dealer principal, said: “This left-hand-drive Twingo, loaned from Germany, will be a static display model only and can’t be driven on the road.”

It will give potential customers the opportunity to see the Twingo up close in the metal ahead of the right-hand-drive demonstator model being available for test drives in December.

People interested in being one of the first Twingo owners can buy a £100 Twingo R Pass which allows them to be among the first early-adopters to order and take delivery of the city car which is expected to be another hit following the success of the revived Renault 5. They also get a 1:43 scale Twingo E-Tech electric, a green Twingo hands-free key card holder and regular information updates.

“We are really excited about the Renault Twingo because there is a lot of love for it,” said Matt. While exact pricing has not yet been confirmed for the fourth-generation Twingo, and first electric version, it is targeted to start from under £20,000. “And, because the Twingo and drive battery are produced in Europe, we are hopeful it will qualify for a government electric car grant incentive.”

The 3.79m long, five-door Twingo is spacious inside. It has a boot capacity of up to 360 litres and two individual rear seats which slide back and forth 17cm to maximise load space or legroom. The 60kW (80hp) electric motor produces 175Nm of torque and the 27.5kWh battery gives a range of up to 163 miles. Twingo can reach 31mph from rest in under four seconds and 62mph in just over 12 seconds, with a top speed of 81mph.

It is also available with the openR link multimedia system with integrated Google built-in. Accessed via a 10in central screen, features include real-time navigation, traffic and charging station updates, ‘Hey Google’ hands-free voice control for various functions and planning routes and access to more than 100 apps. Twingo has up to 24 advanced driver-assistance systems. This small city car is expected to make a big impression just as the Renault 5 has with soaraway sales and a string of major car of the year awards.

Twingo is coming at the right time “The market seems to be opening up with small electric cars. A lot of manufacturers are investing in larger electric cars but sales of those seem to be slow whereas sales seem to be picking up for city cars,” said Matt.
