The Renault 4 E-Tech electric has charmed the judges at the TopGear.com Awards 2026, winning ‘Crossover of the Year’ after drawing praise for its joyful styling, clever use of space, engaging ride and excellent value.
Packed with personality, practical space, and delivering a driving experience that is both relaxing and fun, the Renault 4 E-Tech electric proves that accessible electric cars can be both enjoyable and versatile.
As Jack Rix, Editor of TopGear.com, explained: “We’re still searching frantically for a chink in the R4’s armour. Styling? It’s a shot of concentrated joy into your eyeballs. Space? For every day, modest family duties, its longer wheelbase, bigger boot and extended rear legroom are just right. Handling? There’s a clarity to its responses and an underlying squishiness to the ride that makes even short journeys fun. Range? Plenty. Price? Probably its strongest suit.”
This latest win builds on a string of successes for Renault’s EV line-up. Last year, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric took the overall crown as TopGear.com’s ‘Car of the Year’, while earlier in 2025, the Renault 4 E-Tech electric claimed the ‘Electric Car of the Year’ title at the TopGear.com Electric Car Awards.
Adam Wood, Managing Director and Country Head, Renault Group UK, said: “Renault 4 E-Tech electric proves that practicality and personality can go hand in hand. It’s roomy enough for everyday family life, clever enough to make driving and charging effortless, and engaging enough that even short trips are fun. Recognition from TopGear.com reinforces that R4 is an electric car that people will enjoy.”
At its heart, the Renault 4 E-Tech electric combines character, space and advanced technology. Its 2.62m wheelbase provides generous rear passenger room, while the 420-litre boot is easily accessible and expands to 1,405 litres with the rear seats folded. Renault’s OpenR Link system comes as standard, controlled via a 10.1-inch central touchscreen, and the 100 kW DC charger can take the battery from 15 to 80% in just 30 minutes.
Qualifying for the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant, the Renault 4 E-Tech electric starts at £25,495 OTR, making it one of the most accessible and enjoyable electric crossovers on the road.
